Antithesis
‘Antithesis’ is a series of artworks at the 54 storey Macquarie Street Parramatta, completed for Toplace with Krikis Tayler Architects for City of Parramatta. The series of artworks reflect upon urban intensification and vertical living, and the busy subterranean cross-site link providing an ‘ant trail’ for commuters. Pavement plaques to the 60m walkway display proverbs from around the world reflect on the nature of existence of ants and mankind. The main large wall installations of spiral ‘cast-metal ants’ are to the two ‘lantern’ 6 storey high atriums that mark the entries to this well used walkway towards the CBD and railway. The artworks reflect on the nature of work, and aspects of genetically programmed behaviour, social structure and pre-determined life cycle.
